Women today, in our 40's and beyond, are struggling.
We are stressed, overwhelmed and gaining weight (especially around our belly). We can't sleep, we struggle with fatigue, anxiety and exhaustion, we suppress our feelings whilst resorting to alcohol, food, smoking and other vices for some instant gratification or to escape the daily grind.
And, no matter what we try, our weight just keeps creeping on, leaving us feeling so deflated, we give up because it's "all too hard". Add to this, the daily pressures of life and trying to keep it all together whilst juggling home, family and work responsibilities, and the truth is, it can all get too much to the point where we feel like we just can’t cope anymore.
For almost two decades I have worked with hundreds of clients, who’s health have been low on their priority list - usually because they've put everyone before themselves.
Many have accepted their ill health and weight gain as part of the ageing process and “this is just what happens with menopause”. Unfortunately as days go by, their stress becomes worse and their hormones become more and more unbalanced, they get used to how bad they feel and start to accept their stress, aches and pains, tiredness, anxiety and depressive moods as ‘normal’.
However, this is NOT normal. You are NOT powerless to change. You CAN feel better, you CAN lose stubborn body fat, and you CAN improve your mood, energy and life by facing your symptoms head on and taking a proactive approach to your health.
Your health is an investment and you can’t take care of anyone if you don’t take care of yourself first.

I remember a time...
A little while ago, I was stressed, overwhelmed and gaining weight.
I was juggling work, family, ageing parents and financial responsibilities. I was placing so many unrealistic expectations upon myself, whilst trying to be seen as a strong, coping 'super mum'. I said “yes” to everything and everyone, however the more I committed to, the more stressed and overwhelmed I became.
I couldn't sleep, often falling into bed exhausted and rolling out of bed exhausted. I constantly felt anxious thinking of all the things I needed to get done as I raced (and so did my mind) from one task to another. I was in a vicious cycle of using coffee as a pick me up during my daily energy slumps and wine to relax in the evenings. I also began comfort eating, suppressing my feelings in a bowl of ice-cream. And, self care? What was that? Such a foreign concept given my whole life revolved around helping others. At my lowest point, I began gaining weight (especially around my belly) and started experiencing symptoms of adrenal fatigue - a condition brought on by prolonged periods of stress.
Little did I know that the constant release of cortisol (stress hormone) was raising my insulin, altering my appetite, reducing my ability to burn fat and increasing the rate at which I was storing fat and rendering me exhausted.
Put simply: High stress = high cortisol = high insulin = elevated blood sugar = weight gain, especially around belly
By taking an holistic approach to my health, I was able to understand exactly what was going on in by body, as well as get to the root cause of my hormone imbalances. As a result, my mood, energy, and sleep patterns improved, I no longer craved certain foods and I was able to change my perception of stress, to make it work for me, not against me. And as a result, I was able to improve my health, happiness and overall quality of life.
Women have come a long way in redefining our roles in society. I believe, it's time for us to start redefining our NEW normal when it comes to our health, happiness and life aged 40 and beyond.
